Presto la vista si apre da entrambi i lati sulla pianura, e in alto verso un cielo immenso. \\u00c8 un paesaggio dai colori forti fatto di erbe e cespugli bassi, sul quale l\\u2019occhio spazia fino ai colli sopra Castiglione della Pescaia. Nelle stagioni umide la pianura si riempie di ristagni d\\u2019acqua dolce, i \\u201cchiari\\u201d, molto frequentati dagli uccelli ma che si seccano all\\u2019arrivo dell\\u2019estate. Cos\\u00ec doveva apparire quasi tutta la costa maremmana di un tempo. Qui si incontrano spesso le vacche maremmane, e sembra davvero di essere dentro un quadro dei Macchiaioli.<\\\/p>\\r\\n<p>L\\u2019arrivo a Bocca d\\u2019Ombrone, preannunciato da lontano dalla torretta del Casello idraulico, \\u00e8 spettacolare. Qui il fiume e il mare si incontrano, e si combatte un duello che dura da tremila anni. Affacciandosi sull\\u2019acqua, si pu\\u00f2 assistere infatti alla geologia \\u201cin diretta\\u201d. Soprattutto quando la marea si sta ritirando, l\\u2019acqua limacciosa dell\\u2019Ombrone, pi\\u00f9 chiara, si allunga verso il mare aperto, dove i sedimenti che trasporta in sospensione saranno distribuiti sulle spiagge dalle correnti costiere. Tutta la pianura intorno si \\u00e8 formata cos\\u00ec, per deposizione dei sedimenti del fiume. Quando i rilievi dell\\u2019interno venivano disboscati, l\\u2019erosione dei versanti portava pi\\u00f9 sedimenti e la pianura avanzava, mentre quando l\\u2019entroterra tornava a coprirsi di boschi, era il mare a riprendersi lo spazio che era stato suo. Cos\\u00ec sta avvenendo anche adesso e qui, fra opere di difesa idraulica e argini crollati, si pu\\u00f2 vedere e toccare con mano tutta la precariet\\u00e0 di questa terra contesa.<\\\/p>\\r\\n<p>Dietro il Casello, un breve sentiero porta al capanno per il birdwatching, in uno dei luoghi preferiti dai fotografi naturalisti che frequentano il Parco della Maremma. Tornati indietro si prosegue verso il mare, sopra una bassa prateria un po\\u2019 verde e un po\\u2019 rosa di salicornia e limonio, piante che tollerano il sale.<\\\/p>\\r\\n<p>Quando si arriva al mare e la strada gira verso sud correndo su una massicciata qualche metro sopra la pianura, il panorama si apre di nuovo, questa volta sull\\u2019isola del Giglio, su Monte Argentario, e su quasi l\\u2019intera catena dell\\u2019Uccellina. Soon the view opens on both sides over the plain, and up towards an immense sky. It is a landscape of strong colors made of grasses and low bushes, over which the eye extends up to the hills above Castiglione della Pescaia. In the humid seasons the plain is filled with freshwater ponds, the \\\"chiari\\\", much frequented by birds but which dry up when summer arrives. This is how almost the entire Maremma coast must have looked in the past. Here you often meet Maremma cows, and it really feels like you are inside a Macchiaioli painting.<\\\/p>\\r\\n<p>The arrival at Bocca d'Ombrone, announced from afar by the hydraulic toll tower, is spectacular. Here the river and the sea meet, and a duel is fought that has lasted for three thousand years. Looking out over the water, you can witness the geology \\\"live\\\". Especially when the tide is receding, the clearer muddy water of the Ombrone stretches towards the open sea, where the sediments it carries in suspension will be distributed on the beaches by the coastal currents. The entire surrounding plain was formed in this way, through the deposition of river sediments. When the inland hills were deforested, the erosion of the slopes brought more sediments and the plain advanced, while when the hinterland became covered with woods again, it was the sea that took back the space that had been its. This is happening even now and here, between hydraulic defense works and collapsed embankments, you can see and touch all the precariousness of this disputed land.<\\\/p>\\r\\n<p>Behind the toll booth, a short path leads to the birdwatching hut, in one of the favorite places for nature photographers who frequent the Maremma Park. Having gone back, we continue towards the sea, over a low, slightly green and slightly pink prairie of salicornia and limonium, plants that tolerate salt.<\\\/p>\\r\\n<p>When you reach the sea and the road turns south running on a roadbed a few meters above the plain, the panorama opens up again, this time on the island of Giglio, on Monte Argentario, and on almost the entire Uccellina chain . already invaded by Mediterranean scrub. Soon the view opens on both sides over the plain, and up towards an immense sky. It is a landscape of strong colors made of grasses and low bushes, over which the eye extends up to the hills above Castiglione della Pescaia. In the humid seasons the plain is filled with freshwater ponds, the \"chiari\", much frequented by birds but which dry up when summer arrives. This is how almost the entire Maremma coast must have looked in the past. Here you often meet Maremma cows, and it really feels like you are inside a Macchiaioli painting.<\/p>\r\n<p>The arrival at Bocca d'Ombrone, announced from afar by the hydraulic toll tower, is spectacular. Here the river and the sea meet, and a duel is fought that has lasted for three thousand years. Looking out over the water, you can witness the geology \"live\". Especially when the tide is receding, the clearer muddy water of the Ombrone stretches towards the open sea, where the sediments it carries in suspension will be distributed on the beaches by the coastal currents. The entire surrounding plain was formed in this way, through the deposition of river sediments. When the inland hills were deforested, the erosion of the slopes brought more sediments and the plain advanced, while when the hinterland became covered with woods again, it was the sea that took back the space that had been its. This is happening even now and here, between hydraulic defense works and collapsed embankments, you can see and touch all the precariousness of this disputed land.<\/p>\r\n<p>Behind the toll booth, a short path leads to the birdwatching hut, in one of the favorite places for nature photographers who frequent the Maremma Park.
